Mosasaurs are large extinct marine reptiles. They breathed air and were powerful swimmers adapting to living in warm and shallow epicontinental seas which were prevalent during the Late Cretaceous Period. The body shape of the Mosasaur was similar to that of modern day lizards but were longer and streamlined for swimming. They had double hinged jaws and flexible skulls similar to snakes, which enabled them to eat their pray whole. They lived near the end of the Cretaceous period which was around 70 million years ago.
